Harry Potter strikes 'Deathly Hallows' midnight madness in bookstores across America
One minute past the stroke of midnight on July 21, 2007, marked the beginning of the end of Harry Potter, arguably one of the most beloved fictional characters, by adults and children alike, of all-time, with book sales already topping over 300 million copies worldwide. As the clock wound down to that fateful moment, Harry Potter fans counted down the seconds at independent booksellers, such as River Run Bookstore in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and tens, if not hundreds, of thousands lined up in parking lots outside mall-based chains, such as Barnes & Noble, around the country to purchase the final installment, ominously titled Harry Potter And The Deathly Hollows (Scholastic; July, 2007). Meanwhile, actor Jim Dale, the official 'voice of Harry Potter,' on all seven of the Harry Potter audiobooks (over 200 character voices in all), was packing his bags (seen here at BookExpo America 2005) for a an audiobook promotion tour of Houston, Washington, Philadelphia and Charlotte, North Carolina.
